A woman who gave birth to a COVID-19 positive baby was devastated to learn that her husband died of the disease while she was in labor. She was also infected by the virus.
“A young pregnant Mother X brought herself alone to PGH ER when she started to labor. She left her husband at home because of fever and coughing but they never thought it was COVID,” Father Marlito Ocon, head chaplain of the PGH wrote on Facebook.
“Upon arrival in PGH and after delivering her baby, both were found positive of COVID- 19. While she and her baby were still fighting and struggling for life, news broke out that her husband died of COVID at home,” he added.
Father Ocon said he felt the suffering of the young mother as he listened to her story.

“Ang lungkot, Father. Wala na akong asawa na mauwian, abo na ang asawa ko. Di man lang kami nagkausap. Di ko man lang maibalita na may second baby na kami. Di man lang sila nagkita ng anak namin,” the woman told Ocon.
“I know that any words can’t explain enough why horrible things like this happened. But I realized that it is in our deep, deep silence and it is when we run out of words, and when theology can’t explain enough, that our faith can speak louder,” Ocon said.
“Samin siya [kumukuha] ng lakas ng loob niya after our visit and she prayed using the prayer materials we provided,” he added.
The priest added that this was not the first time that he heard tragic stories like this after visiting patients in PGH for a year now.
“Kapit lang sa itaas, patuloy na manalig at umasa na ang Diyos ang in control ng lahat, all shall be well in the end. Mananaig din ang kabutihan sa huli. Patuloy lang lumaban hindi niya tayo pababayaan,” Ocon said.
