In 1908, a year before William Howard Taft won the presidency of the United States, he visited Baguio City for the last time.
The history between Taft and the Philippines did not begin here – he was appointed by President William McKinley in 1900 to head a second Philippine Commission, also known as the Taft Commission.

Taft would become Governor-General of the Philippines over the span of eight years.
He would later become the 27th President of the United States in 1909 until 1913. Afterwards he became the 10th Chief Justice of the United States in 1921 until his death in 1930.
Taft is the only person in United States history to preside over both the executive and judicial branch of the United States Federal Government.
