Water disconnection still prohibited under MECQ

Maynilad and Manila Water will still not cut off water services in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Recently, Metro Manila and Laguna were subjected to the MECQ in the face of the continued spike of COVID-19 cases.

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Regulatory Office in Maynilad and Manila Water has ordered the extension of the “no disconnection policy” as long as the quarantine status is still elevated in Manila.

According to Manila Water, they will follow MWSS’s order, but customers can still expect the meter reading and bill to continue.

Manila Water will also issue a disconnection notice by September and advised customers to contact their offices for settlement and payment remedies.

On September 1, Maynilad will also issue a notice of disconnection and give an extension to those with a balance of 2 months or more before the service is cut off.

“Mayroon pa po silang 2 linggo o 14 na araw para makapagbigay ng sapat na panahon para magbayad saka pa lang po natin i-execute ang disconnection,” said Maynilad Spokesperson Zmel Grabillo.

Meanwhile, Maynilad will conduct maintenance activities in Caloocan.

As a result, the following areas will experience a service interruption from 10 pm on August 24 to 1 am on August 25:

  • Caloocan
  • Las Piñas
  • Malabon
  • Manila

  • Pasay
  • Cavite
    – Bacoor
    – Cavite CIty
    – Imus
    – Kawit
    – Noveleta
    – Rosario

According to the National Water Resources Board (NWRB), the water level in Angat Dam has improved since July, so there is sufficient supply for Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, and Cavite.

The NWRB also believes that the water supply will remain adequate until the end of the year.

Meanwhile, quarantine passes will no longer be required in Metro Manila with the start of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), according to the Metro Manila Council (MMC).

Apart from Metro Manila, the province of Laguna will also be included in the  tomorrow. At the same time, it will start in the province of Bataan on Monday as COVID-19 infections increase again.
