Watch: LRT-2 operation suspended because of fire

UPDATED-LRT-2 operation was suspended when a fire hits between LRT-2 Anonas and Katipunan stations this noon, Thursday.

Netizens were able to capture the thick smoke coming from the flaming power supply transformers. Firefighters were also seen trying to put out the fire.

Light Rail Transit Authority spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera said the power transformers between Anonas and Katipunan stations and in the Santolan depot tripped, causing the fire.

“Both of them nag-trip. ‘Yung tripping, resulted na masunog silang dalawa. Of course affected na ang power supply sa area, especially ang segment between Anonas and Santolan station,”  told CNN Philippines.

The fire has been contained as of 12:30 p.m. according to LRT-2 management.

LRT-1 operation suspended this morning due to mechanical issues

It was an unlucky day for LRT as it also suspended LRT-1 operations this morning due to mechanical problems.

LRT-1 posted on their Twitter account, “Our service in Roosevelt Stn is currently experiencing mechanical issues and is now being checked by our technicians onsite. We would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

They also said they could only transport passengers from Monumento to Baclaran stations and vice versa.
