The United States Navy has dispatched the USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier and several warships into the South China Sea, also known as the West Philippine Sea, this week.
The aircraft carrier is accompanied by the USS Mobil Bay cruiser, as well as destroyers USS Stockdale and USS Chung-Hoon, said Navy officials.
The Navy also noted that the carrier is on a routine patrol of the West Philippine Sea. The news comes in light of the Chinese moving fighter jets, military radar and surface-to-air missiles onto various islands in the region.
