COVID-19 vaccination walk-ins not allowed under ECQ

Although the need for vaccination against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is growing now that the more infectious Delta variant is spreading, the Department of Health (DOH) clarified that it will ban “walk-in” vaccines while enforcing more stringent lockdown.

This was clarified by Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire to reporters Monday, now that the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will be implemented in Metro Manila starting Friday.

“Ang pinakaimportante na ilalabas na guidelines natin, wala pong walk in. Walk ins will not be allowed, there will be pre-registration. Magkakaroon po ng strict scheduling para po hindi nagkakaroon ng mass gathering sa ating bakunahan,” said Vergeire.

“Magkakaroon din po ng provision dapat ang local governments ng transportation for these vaccinees, dahil alam natin medyo limitado po ang mga transportasyon kapag ka ECQ po ang ating gagawin.”

She also assured that those scheduled to be vaccinated would be exempted from the ECQ restrictions, especially since everyone is prohibited from going out of the house unless they have to take necessities (food, medicine) or work.

She said they only need to show their vaccination cards or vaccination schedule to be allowed to travel.

Metro Manila is set to be placed on the ECQ from August 6 to 20 due to the spread of the Delta variant, which is much more contagious than other types of COVID-19.

To better protect more people from the Delta variant, the DOH also said that even those who are not yet on the government’s priority lists in Metro Manila could be vaccinated as long as they want and have an adequate medicine supply.

However, healthcare workers, senior citizens, and other diseases (comorbidities) are still a priority for the vaccine.

“‘Yun po ang isa sa mga strategies na gagawin. Pero katulad nga ng sabi ko, ito pong supplies natin kailangan titignan ng local governments. Kais gusto natin, priorities pa rin unahin nila, and then the rest of the population can follow,” said Vergeire.

“But yes, that is the strategy of our vaccine cluster. Susundin po natin ‘yan.”
