UV Express drivers in QC apprehended due to overloading

The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) of the Philippine National Police continues to inspect public vehicles even though Metro Manila has been lowered to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

This is after HPG and Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety personnel on Commonwealth Avenue caught the five UV Express due to overloading this Monday morning.

“Continuous pa rin ang ating mobile inspection… Marami pa ring violators, sumasakay kahit hindi essential [ang] lakad nila,” said Police Maj. Ram Rafuson, member of HPG-National Capital Region.

Authorities expect more arrests during the day.

Only up to 50 percent of the capacity of public vehicles is allowed to comply with health protocols against COVID-19.

According to one driver, he did not receive any assistance, so he took many passengers.

Despite this, authorities are still ticketing UV Express drivers.

Authorities on Commonwealth Avenue also arrested motorcycle and delivery riders whose vehicle was not registered, even though they were Authorized Persons Outside Residence.

Metro Manila came out of the 2-week ECQ before it was downgraded to the MECQ on Saturday as the COVID-19 cases continued to be kicked out. The MECQ will last until the end of the month.

Meanwhile, there will be another reduction in the price of petroleum products on Tuesday, August 24.

According to Shell, Cleanfuel, Caltex, Seaoil, and Petro Gazz, P0.80 will be rolled back in the price of each liter of their gasoline, while P0.75 will be cut per liter of diesel.

Shell, Caltex, and Seaoil also announced that they would reduce their kerosene by P0.90 per liter.

The new prices are effective at 6 a.m. except for Caltex, which will be adjusted at 12:01 a.m., and Cleanfuel, which will take effect at 8:01 p.m.

This is the second consecutive week there has been a reduction in oil prices. Last week, the price of diesel and kerosene rolled back while the price of gasoline remained unchanged.
