The US Embassy in Manila has invited Presidential hopeful Rodrigo Duterte to discuss the ongoing issues with China and the territorial dispute involving the South China Sea, or the West Philippine Sea as it’s also known.
Davao City’s Mayor Rodrigo Duterte told Rizal province on his campaign stomping on Monday that: “The American embassy would like to talk to me. I want to make this public because I feel lukewarm toward the United States.
“I told them I would look for [a better schedule] this month.”
Duterte has been vocal about his position on the West Philippine Sea dispute – he also has talked about a venture with China on helping the Philippines attain a high-speed railway system.
In his talks he says that the Philippines will have to create a partnership with China in exchange for some of the energy riches that are within the West Philippine Sea.
