US CDC: Avoid traveling to Philippines if unvaccinated due to ‘high’ COVID-19 risk

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday said unvaccinated individuals should avoid nonessential travel to the Philippines and other areas categorized as Level 3 (COVID-19 High).

“Make sure you are fully vaccinated before traveling to these destinations. Unvaccinated travelers should avoid nonessential travel to these destinations,” the US CDC said in an advisory.

The Philippines was re-placed in the classification as a high-risk area in -19 due to cases kicking off 47% nationwide in just two weeks due to the more contagious Delta variant, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday.

From August 2 to 8, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said an average of 8,829 new cases were recorded each day. Before that, there was an average of 7,029 new cases per day in recent weeks.
