Unknown gunmen abducted three men off a tourist island in Zamboanga del Norte province in the southern Philippines on Monday.
Police say at least 15 armed men seized the three on Aliguay Island in the historic city of Dapitan. The group took two unarmed Coast Guard personnel and the island’s chieftain Roberto Buligao.
The group arrived on two motorboats, clad in camouflage uniforms and appeared in the region at 2am.
So far, no group is claiming responsibility for the abduction. The island is just 45 minutes by boat from Dakak Resort and is a favorite for local and foreign tourists.
Just the day before, gunmen also abducted a finance officer of a mining firm in Tawi-Tawi in Bongao – the officer was taken from Beachside Inn in the village of Simandagit.
