The Department of Public Works and Highways unearthed two World War II bombs during a road project in Basaco, Batanes on Saturday.
Police say the two bombs are identical, with both measuring 32 inches long and 11 inches in diameter.

The vintage bombs were taken to a secure spot while police waited for the operatives from the Explosives and Ordinance Division of the Philippine Army to show up.
Locals say the area was a hot-bed for Japanese soldiers during World War II, with the town having its own Japanese tunnel.
The mayor of Basaco said he believes the Japanese may have attempted to conceal the bombs underground during their time in Batanes.
