The second blast — just 50 metres from the first — detonated just after police had given a media briefing at 8.30pm.

City police chief Oscar Albayalde said they had not identified the two victims, who were both killed by the first bomb.

The injured have been taken to the Mary Chiles General Hospital in Sampaloc district.

Chief Inspector Marvin Carbonel of the city’s Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD) said officers were removing shrapnel at the site of the first blast when the second struck.

One suspect has been arrested, and police say they believe the attacks were related to a “clan war”.

The area has been sealed off and investigations are continuing.

Last week, 14 people were hurt in another explosion in Quiapo district, during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in the city.
