Tropical depression Carina moves towards Luzon strait

Pagasa reported tropical depression Carina maintains its northwestward heading towards Luzon Strait, its latest weather bulletin said.

At 1:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Depression “CARINA” was estimated based on all available data at 200 km East Northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan or 200 km East of Aparri, Cagayan (18.2 °N, 123.5 °E )

Carina is moving Northwestward at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

The center of Tropical Depression “CARINA” is forecast move northwestward towards the Luzon Strait, passing roughly 100 km off the northeastern tip of Luzon and near Babuyan Islands and Batanes. However, accounting for the forecast track probability cone, a landfall scenario over these areas remains a possibility.

This tropical depression is forecast to weaken into a Low Pressure Area on Wednesday.

Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Abra, and Ilocos Norte. Scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the rest of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards. The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take appropriate measures and monitor the Rainfall or Thunderstorm Advisories or Heavy Rainfall Warnings of PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

The areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 may experience occasional gusts due to the Tropical Depression.

Moderate to rough seas (1.2-3.1 m) will be experienced over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon in the next 24 hours. Those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to sea.
