Trello Meal Planning: How to Use the Trello App to Organize Your Eating Schedule

Over time, we have all gathered recipes that make our mouths water. First from our moms, later from cookbooks, magazines, TV shows, and lately from food blogs or even Pinterest. They are handwritten, printed, or even photographed with the cell phone.

Some of our cookbooks have doubled in thickness since when we first got them. How wonderful would it be to have all these recipes organized in an easy manner to avoid spreading them all over the floor when we are rushing to find a favorite recipe!

Thankfully, someone found a solution for this and is generous enough to offer it for free, or at least some of its features are offered for free. Welcome to Trello! It is a very useful app, accessible not only from your laptop but also from your phone. Let’s take a look.

About Trello

Signing up for any Trello account is absolutely free of charge, and you can use it for a lot of things. From organizing your household to using it as a calendar, it is very useful. You can also keep records of gifts you offer, note when to take care of your freezer, or use it as a reminder of articles to read later. The list goes on and on. However, using it to plan your meals might become your most preferred way to use Trello.

Features of Trello

After you create your account on Trello, you can create boards with whatever background you want. The range goes from solid colors to very pretty stock images. If you sign up for Trello Gold, you can even customize your background!

First, on the left, you need a list named Recipes. Next, you can create one called Weekly Meals. This should be followed by Traditional Recipes (Fish, Seafood, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Pasta, Pizza, or whatever else you wish to add). Eventually, create a list called Recipes to Test if the kitchen is your kingdom.

Quick Tip

You may have the chance to get your kids involved, too, if you start asking their opinion on the recipes they would like to have. You can also take them with you when going to the grocery store, and you can let them help you while cooking. It is guaranteed that they will feel very proud and enjoy spending this time with you!

Under Weekly Meals, you can add cards like List for grocery store or Top coupons or Romantic dinners.

Labels make Trello stand out among top recipe organizer apps. By default, Trello uses a color bar system, but if you add the free TreLabels extension from Chrome, you can also name the labels.

Important: Labels can be searched and filtered!

You can add a recipe for each card manually or by dragging the recipe’s URL to the space named “add card”. Ingredients and directions go into the description. The image attachment becomes a card cover, linking to the online recipe.

Furthermore, ingredients can be copy-pasted in the List for grocery store card. With the calendar enabled, you can drag your meal idea to Weekly Meals and assign it a date. This will appear in your Google Calendar, too. After making every meal on the plan, remember to move it to the bottom of its list or reschedule it!

Pricing

The Trello app is free. However, if you decide you need more than 10 team boards and more customizable features, you can choose the Business Class plan.

They also offer an Enterprise plan for over 100 users and public board management. A nice surprise was to see that Trello offers educational and non-profit discounts.

Availability

This application is available both for free (standard plan) or for affordable prices (premium plans). You can use it on your desktop (via their website) or your smartphone.

How to Get the App

Whether you are an Apple or Android user, you can get Trello as easy as any other app. Just go to Google Play or the App Store and download it from there. Follow the steps to create your account and start planning!
