A total of 25 passengers, including seven foreign tourists, were rescued from a motorboat which reportedly ran aground off Coron, Palawan, on Monday night.
The Philippines Coast Guard reported the incident on Thursday, saying the M/B Hannah, carrying 25 people developed engine trouble – the boat left Linapacan around 4pm – six hours later the Coast Guard received a report that the boat was stuck in shallow waters near Coron.
The Coast Guard sent officials to rescue those aboard the boat – the group included Israelis, French and German tourists.
Officials said they will investigate why the boat was traveling so late at night – although it is being speculated that it took several hours before the captain called the Coast Guard for assistance.
