Tootsy Angara ‘grieves’ for laid off ABS-CBN colleagues

Elvira, also known as “Tootsy” Angara, the wife of Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara said she was heartbroken for her ABS-CBN colleagues who were laid off after House committee on legislative franchises denied the network’s application.

“My heart grieves.. my heart is angry…,” Angara posted a message on her 24th year anniversary with ABS-CBN.

“Why do you choose to inflict pain on people whose simple joys were just to see their kids grow up to have better lives than themselves.. people who worked tirelessly to be able to build a home and provide for their families. So devastating.. so many grieving hearts and broken dreams.. so many tears..,” she added.
Tootsy Angara serves as a sales cluster head for ABS-CBN Corporation.

“This is not over, I swear to each and every one of you.. it’s not over!” Angara said.

The network earlier announced that it would have to let go of employees in August after the House of Representatives denied its new 25-year franchise application.

Veteran broadcast journalist and ANCX executive editor Ces Drilon earlier announced she was among the laid-off ABS-CBN employees.

“This was one of the toughest days I had to face. Telling fellow Kapamilyas that they would lose their jobs by the end of August,” Drilon said in a Tweet.

“I lost mine too,” the former Bandila anchor said.

Drilon has been working with ABS-CBN since 1989. She served as a co-anchor in news programs The World Tonight and TV Patrol.

“Babangon din ang mga Kapamilya. This may be our darkest hour. But don’t lose hope,” she said in another post.

ABS-CBN radio station MOR 101.9 would also stop its operations, according to DJ Chacha or Czarina Balba, in real-life.

“Sinabi na sa amin na expect the worst talaga. Pwedeng retrenchment, pwedeng stop operations ‘yung ibang department ng ABS-CBN,” Balba said.

(We have been told to expect the worst. Retrenchment or other ABS-CBN departments may stop operations.)

DJ Chacha explained that MOR is ABS-CBN’s FM station in Manila, but there are MOR stations all over the Philippines. Employees working outside Manila will lose their jobs too.

The management told DJ Chacha that MOR would only operate until August 31.
