Senator Ping Lacson is what Senate President Tito Sotto wants to be a partner in the 2022 elections.
“If Sen. Lacson decides to run for president, I will definitely be his running mate,” Sotto said.
“I am not in the habit of saying that I will not run, and then all of a sudden I will file my certificate of candidacy. Let the other politicians do that. Not in our party,” he added.
According to Sotto, Lacson and groups are approaching them to determine their plans for the upcoming elections.
“We are seriously contemplating on it… There are some groups and some sectors that have approached me and Sen. Lacson. If Sen. Lacson decides to run for president, I will definitely be his running mate,” Sotto said, a member of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
He said he could announce his final decision after President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address next month.
Lacson said he is still considering whether he will run for president in 2022.

“As for my decision, and this much I told him — I’m still processing and as I have already stated repeatedly, pag-aaralan muna naming dalawa ang mga mabibigat na problema ng bansa at mga possible solutions,” said the senator.
He and Sotto allegedly consulted some economic experts and people who were allegedly, “knowledgeable about the other facets of governance that have to do with foreign policy, national security, etc.”
“So if and when we decide, we know all the issues and how to deal with the same,” he explained.
“The problems of this country cannot be solved by Tiktok, photo-ops and lip service. It is more than serious business,” he added.
According to Lacson, Sotto plans to run for vice president and focus on illegal drugs.
“Gusto niyang pagtulungan namin kasi pareho naming pangunahing advocacy ang peace and order at paglaban sa korapsyon,” said Lacson.
“Totoo ring kabisado niya ako sa pagka-seryoso na labanan ang korapsyon. Hindi minsan kaming tumutol na dalawa, even nagpasauli ng lobby money para sa pagpasa ng prangkisa na pinadala ng isang congressman sa Senate office niya,” he added.
