Taxi driver tried to rob passenger cop, shot dead

A taxi driver was shot dead after he attempted to rob his police passenger in Parañaque City, according to Jhomer Apresto of Super Radio dzBB in “Unang Balita” Wednesday.

Police Staff Sergeant Ronaldo Carpio was off duty when the alleged attempt was made while they were travelling along the C5 Extension in Paranaque City.

Carpio rode the taxi at a gasoline station at Macapagal Boulevard going to a condominium at Dr A. Santos Avenue corner C5 Extension. But instead of going directly to Dr A. Santos Avenue, the taxi driver u-turned and entered Multinational Avenue. The driver then declared a robbery holdup at gunpoint.

The police said he defended himself which caused him to shoot and kill the taxi driver.

Police Colonel Robin King Sarmiento, chief of the Parañaque Police, said the taxi was reported several times due to holdup-related cases.

Meanwhile, after SOCO inspected the victim’s body, a sachet containing suspected shabu was also found in his pocket.

Also, the police found on his cellphone that he was transacting with a shabu buyer.

The deceased taxi driver will not be named yet until his family has been notified.
