The five task force members involved in the violent apprehension of a Parañaque vendor would be facing administrative complaints, Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Monday.
“Precisely, di lang po termination kung hindi magkakaroon po sila ng administrative case na ifa-file ng city,” Olivarez said in an interview on ANC.
According to the mayor, authorities should observe maximum tolerance during clearing operations, especially now that there is a pandemic.
A bystander captured the video on how the task force hurt Parañaque vendor Warren Villanueva.
Mayor Olivarez reminded local officials that abuse of authority would never be tolerated Parañaque.
“Alam po natin our situation now is pandemic, it’s a separate situation, ibang-iba po tayo. Kailangan po natin bilang nasa gobyerno, dapat tayo maging mas lalong maunawain in enforcing the rule of law,” Olivarez said.
“Hindi tayo puwedeng gumamit ng excessive force and abuse of authority,” he added.

Olivarez also reminded Parañaque vendors to observe the protocols being enforced, specifically the orders of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regarding road clearing operations.
“Kaya po ang ginawa ng ating city nitong Christmas holiday, binigyan po natin sila ng alternative side na hindi po sila magtinda sa kalsada. Kinausap po natin ‘yung Parañaque Terminal Exchange, ‘yung PITX, at doon po natin nilagay ‘yung mga vendors kasi alam naman po natin, ‘yung directive ng DILG, ‘yun pong clearing of all sidewalks and major thoroughfare and minor thoroughfare…” Olivarez said.
Meanwhile, Olivarez apologized to the family of the Parañaque vendor who was hurt in the incident. He said Villanueva is still scared because of what had happened.
“Nasa Baclaran po siya. He’s alright pero nandoon pa rin po ang takot sa kaniya, ‘yun pong anxiety nandoon po sa kaniya…” he said.
“Gusto ko lang po humingi ng paumanhin sa pamilya ni Warren, hindi po ‘yun talaga ang protocol ng city at kung sino po ang nagkasala, sasagutin po nila ‘yun,” he added.
