SWAT in Caloocan shoots suspected snatcher

A suspected motorized snatcher was injured after authorities shot him near R. Papa LRT Station in Caloocan Thursday.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Before the incident, the man and another of his colleagues allegedly grabbed a woman’s cellphone in Barangay 57.

According to Hermosa Police Community Precinct Commander Police Major Joseph Jimenez, the men tried to flee to Manila on Rizal Avenue, but the victim asked the police for help.

CCTV footage of Barangay 187 showed the Manila Police District SWAT Team blocking the southbound lane of Rizal Avenue to prevent the men from escaping.

The operatives fired at them once, causing the alleged riding-in-tandem to fall on the motorcycle they were riding.

“Nagkaroon sila ng commotion at dun nga, nabaril ang isang suspek,” said Jimenez.

The suspected snatcher is currently being treated at the Jose Reyes Medical Center in Manila.

Authorities say he may have undergone surgery because of the wound he sustained.

Meanwhile, his colleague is in police custody. They will undergo an inquest after treating the man at such a hospital.

The Manila Police District has also turned over the case to the Caloocan City Police. The investigation is still ongoing.
