“These are events just in parts of Western Mindanao and there’s no cause for alarm for our people here in Luzon and Visayas,” Banac told reporters at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, speaking in Filipino.

“The threat is contained in that part of Western Mindanao,” he added.

Banac said that the Philippines are as good as international law enforcers when it comes to fighting and preventing terror attacks.

“Terrorism is a global problem,” Banac said speaking in Filipino. “Even First World countries with advanced and fine technology and with intense monitoring are still hit by terrorist attacks,” he said.

Banac also defended the Martial Law in Mindanao. “So without martial law, there’s a possibility that there would be more terrorist attacks,” he said. “But because of martial law, we were able to limit the occurrence of these incidents and the movement of suspected terrorists is limited, too,” he said.

A bomber killed in another suicide bombing attack on a military detachment in Sulu, Sunday, September 8.

The suspect, supposedly a woman, was wearing a traditional black Muslim gown or “abaya,” has a long hair and looked like a foreigner. However, the recovered dismembered hand looked like a male’s.

The bomber tried but failed to enter the army’s detachment. Regional military chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said the attacker was unable to enter the detachment due to tight security.

The military links the terror attacks to the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf which are originally from Sulu.
