Singapore tourism dipped slightly in the year ending 2014. Fewer international visitors came to the tiny country, the first drop since 2009.

The numbers come in at a time when the Singapore dollar is strong and slower growth in the Chinese tourist sector are likely causes of the slight dip.

International visitors to Singapore fell three per cent last year to 15.1 million, missing targets by over 10 per cent.

In a twist of that negative news, those who did come to the Asian country actually stayed longer, helping tourism bring in a total of $17.3 billion dollars in receipts.

Singapore relies on tourism for about four per cent of its economic output per year.
