Stranded American gives house to family in Cebu

Since visiting Cebu in 2016, American vlogger Dustin Borglin has been fascinated by the beauty of the province and the kindness of the people. So he returned to the country but was stranded when the pandemic came. But instead of being sad, the foreigner enjoyed simple provincial life and spent time helping those in need.

From Michigan, USA, Dustin returned to Cebu last March and got stranded due to the lockdown. He first stayed at the house of Raymund and Reche Adoptante, whom he met when he first went to the province.

Here, Dustin has learned to live a simple life in Cebu and has enjoyed the dishes served to him. He sometimes cooks and harvests what he cooks.

When he saw some Cebuanos are suffering from the pandemic, he decided to tour the province on a motorcycle to distribute money and aid, which was from his vlog income.

He even built a toilet or CR in the countryside in Toledo City as an early Christmas gift to the people. Moreover, he also made a house for his friends to took care of him.

“They’re like my family. I’ve known them for almost three years now, and they’ve just been so kind to me,” said Dustin.

“It doesn’t matter how much money you have. It doesn’t buy happiness. They might not have a lot but everyone here is very, very happy,” the vlogger.

The University of the Philippines (UP)-OCTA Research team identified 10  in the Visayas and .

The experts noted the number of COVID-19 cases in these areas continues to increase.

COVID-19 hotspots in the Visayas, including the MIMAROPA region, are:

  • Negros Occidental
  • Iloilo
  • Leyte
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Capiz

The coronavirus hotspots in Mindanao are found in:

  • Lanao del Norte
  • Lanao del Sur
  • Agusan del Norte
  • Misamis Oriental
  • South Cotabato

As of September 8, the Philippines has 52,893 active cases of COVID-19 after recording 185,178 recoveries and 3,916 deaths.
