Police in Dipolog City say a sniper shot a big-time drug dealer as he was about to enter the Hall of Justice to attend a drug related hearing on Friday.

Killed in the attack was 32-year-old  RG Guico, a resident of Barangay Barra in Dipolog City. Barra was disembarking from a prison van at the back of the Hall of Justice when a single shot hit him in the chest.

The incident happened at 9.30am when Guico was due to appear before a judge on charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

A police report on the incident said the sniper was believed to be some 40 metres away from the van when the shot rang out. Guico was wounded but managed to run away and hide inside an RTC Branch #6 office with his police escorts.

Police returned fire on the sniper but were unable to locate him. Guico was rushed to the Corazon Aquino Hospital in Dipolog but died while undergoing treatment.

Police say the sniper fled the scene in a white van.

Officials claim that Guico was the top drug dealer in Zamboanga del Norte.

Local authorities believe that Guico was selling kilograms of shabu per week and was attempting to supply the entire region of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Dumaguete and Bohol Provinces.

Guico was imprisoned for seven years after his arrest in 2009. However, police say he was able to continue his drug dealing even though he was behind bars at the Dipolog City Correctional and Rehabilitation Center.

Police said that Guico is the first person accused of drug links to be killed by a sniper. No doubt he won’t be the last.
