All regular vehicles can now cross the entire seven lines of the 18-kilometer Skyway Stage 3 Elevated Expressway connecting South Luzon and North Luzon expressways from Friday, January 15. Also, the free toll has been extended until February 1.

In a statement from San Miguel Corp. (SMC) that is behind the project, the entire expressway will be closed starting 10 p.m. on January 13 and throughout January 14 for a full inspection, set-up, and staging for the official opening on Friday, January 15, at 5:00 am.

“We ask for the kind understanding of motorists, as we prepare to officially open Skyway 3. Following the opening, motorists will be able to experience the benefits of all seven lanes and all the features of this game-changing expressway that will reduce travel time from SLEX to NLEX and vice-versa, to only 30 minutes. It will also help decongest traffic on EDSA and many parts of Metro Manila,” said Skyway management.

Although the statement stated that the toll on the Skyway 3 is free until January 29, SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang, in his Facebook post, said that the toll on the expressway will be free until February 1.

“All access points and seven lanes on select areas will be available to motorists starting January 15 still for free—extended until February 1—so that our motorists can experience and enjoy seamless driving along with this engineering marvel over Metro Manila’s congested streets,” said Ang.

It was December 29 when parts of Skyway 3 opened up which many motorists enjoyed because the trip to Makati and SLEX from NLEX-Balintawak was fast which only took 20 to 30 minutes from the previous two hours when passing through EDSA.

Skyway 3 has entry and exit ramps at Buendia, Plaza Dilao, Nagtahan, E. Rodriguez, Quezon Avenue, Sergeant Rivera, and Balintawak.

The 18-kilometer elevated expressway comprises five sections: Buendia – Quirino Avenue – Nagtahan; Nagtahan – Aurora Blvd/Ramon Magsaysay Avenue; Ramon Magsaysay Avenue-Quezon Avenue; Quezon Avenue-Balintawak, and Balintawak, Quezon City-NLEX Footbridge.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the Skyway Stage 3 project helps reduce the number of vehicles passing through EDSA.
