Jonathan Lee Seng Tan has been sentenced to eight years in prison for not paying a hotel bill.
Tan’s bill amounted to a little less than 20,000 pesos (about $400 dollars) which he owed to Bethel Guest House in Dumaguete City. Tan visited the hotel in August 2013. The bill included accommodation, food and other services.
The Singaporean has now been jailed at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Tan claimed he was robbed of his belongings in the city’s Quezon Park. However, during his trial, prosecutors presented evidence from Tan’s Facebook page in which he boasted about his criminal activities in La Trinidad and Iloilo City. Mr Tan reportedly said: “catch me if you can.”
