Select banks to close early amid COVID-19 surge

Some banks have announced that they will close early due to the rise of the COVID-19 case.

Different banks notified their depositors and customers of banks that their operating hours will change starting today, January 10.

According to BPI, all their branches nationwide will open at 9 am and close at 3 pm. This is due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country. They advise the public to use online banking services first.

According to BDO, all their branches in Metro Manila are affected by the new schedule with a closing hour of 3 pm. However, they have no notice for other branches in the provinces.

According to PNB, their new operating hours starting today are 9 am-3 pm. However, he said they can still use their banking app.

Metrobank also has short operating hours from January 7 to 14 due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. So their operating hours are 9-3 pm, and that still depends on the branches in some LGUs with stricter quarantine.

Many Land Bank branches are closed nationwide, and for operational operations, most of them are only 8:30 am to 2 pm.

The Central Bank of the Philippines had earlier said that banks would continue to deliver services amid the pandemic. The BSP also advises the public to use online banking or digital payment services.

COVID-19 updates

The Philippines once again recorded a new record high of 28,707 COVID-19 cases this Sunday afternoon, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 2,965,447 since March 2020.

DOH Case Bulletin No. 666 recorded a 44.0% positivity rate in 77,479 individuals tested for COVID-19 tests on January 7.

A total of 2,579 patients recovered, which led to the number of recoveries rising to 2,785,183 or 93.9% of the total cases.

Fifteen patients died, bringing the death toll to 52,150.

Active cases were recorded at 128,114, of which 4,213 individuals were asymptomatic, 119,276 mild cases, 2,851 moderate, 1,465 severe, and 309 critical.

Nationwide, the utilization rate in ICU beds was recorded at 35%, at 39% in isolation beds, 38% in ward beds, and 18% in ventilators.
