Sara Duterte still tops Pulse Asia presidential survey

The complexity of the 2022 national election has changed slightly if the results of another survey released by Pulse Asia today are to be believed.

Although Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is still leading the presidential survey, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has overtaken President Rodrigo Duterte as vice president, according to a new study released Wednesday.

“With 20% of Filipino adults expressing support for a probable presidential bid by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, she emerges as the leading presidentiable as of September 2021,” according to Pulse Asia.

“A quarter of Filipino adults (25%) would elect Senate President Vicente Sotto III as the country’s next vice-president if the May 2022 elections were held during the survey period.”

It was only in July that Sara and Digong, a father and daughter who are said to be members of a “political dynasty” in Davao City, took the lead in Pulse Asia’s presidential and VP survey, even though the latter was the last to announce his candidacy to the two officially.

Historically, it is not because you are leading the survey that you are the winner, just like what happened to former Sen. Manny Villar, who led the 2009 Pulse Asia surveys. But, unfortunately, he was defeated by former President Noynoy Aquino in the 2010 elections.

If the May 2022 national elections were held during the survey period, it would turn out to be the “top 10” currently favored by the public to win:

  • Duterte, Sara “Inday” (20%)
  • Marcos, Ferdinand “Bongbong (15%)
  • Domagoso, Francisco “Isko Moreno” (13%)
  • Pacquiao, Emmanuel “Manny” (12%)
  • Poe, Grace (9%)

  • Robredo Maria Leonor “Leni” (8%)
  • Lacson, Panfilo “Ping” (6%)
  • Cayetano, Alan Peter (4%)
  • Go, Christopher “Bong Go” (3%)
  • Trillanes, Antonio “Sonny” (1%)

If the respondents’ first choice for the presidency suddenly does not run in 2022, Sen. Grace Poe and former Sen. Bongbong Marcos were elected to the presidency:

  • Domagoso, Francisco “Isko Moreno” (13%)
  • Duterte, Sara “Inday” (11%)

“Filipinos are split when it comes to their second choice for president. However, should their original presidential candidate decide not to run in May 2022, about the same percentages would instead for vote Senator Poe (14%), former Senator Marcos (14%), Manila Mayor Domagoso (13%), or Davao City Mayor Duterte (11%),” Pulse Asia added.
