Sandra Cam surrenders to Calabarzon police

Sandra Cam, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member, surrendered to the Calabarzon police on Thursday after she was involved in the killing of Masbate vice mayor Charlie Yuson III.

According to Criminal Detection and Investigation Group (CIDG) director Major General Albert Ignatius Ferro said Sandra Cam surrendered voluntarily due to a medical concern.

“Kasi may medical concern [siya] so hindi din siya basta maaalis. So sinerve natin doon tapos pending sa medical condition niya saka natin siya dadalhin sa Crame or kung saan siya puwede ilagay na custodial area,” he said.

(Because she has a medical concern, we can’t just move her. We served it there and pending her medical condition, we would decide if we could take her to Camp Crame or another custodial area.)

Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 42 Judge Dinnah Aguila-Topacio issued on Monday arrest warrants against Cam, her son, and five others in relation to the killing of Yuson on October 9, 2019 in Sampaloc, Manila.

The accused will not be allowed to post bail in the murder case, said the court. The judge set the bail at P200,000 for each of the accused in the frustrated murder case.

In an interview in 2019, Yuson’s wife said that her husband told her that if anything bad happens to him, Sandra Cam should be held responsible.

Cam has repeatedly denied the allegations and extended her condolences to the Yuson family.

“Me and my son had nothing to do with that ambush of ni Vice Mayor and OIC Mayor of our town, Batuan,” Sandra said.

“As a mother, I sympathize with the bereaved family [pero] hindi po totoo na politically motivated ‘yan. Wait for the investigation to roll, huwag muna sana tayong gumawa ng mga speculation,” she added.

Sandra Cam “was a self-confessed bagwoman of an illegal numbers game in the Philippines for years before turning into a “whistleblower” in 2005. She exposed the web of corruption involving small-town lotteries and big-time politicians in the country.”
