A Romanian received two years in federal prison for filing a total of 392 false  petitions to obtain visas for workers from the Philippines.

34-year-old Bogdan Dragos pleaded guilty to the charges in June of this year, but has recently been sentenced for his part in the crime.

An initial investigation shows that Dragos was living in Daytona Beach, Florida, operating an employment agency when he filed for the petitions through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

In the petitions he falsely claimed he had contracts with twelve hotels in Daytona Beach area who were in need of foreign workers on a temporary basis.

USCIS approved the petitions – a major portion of the 392 approved started applying for their visas in the U.S. Embassy in Manila – but that’s where things went wrong for Dragos.

The U.S. Embassy started to call the hotels in Daytona Beach to verify the contracts, but none existed.

The case was then forwarded to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations unit, along with the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service.

The case was prosecuted by the Assistant United States Attorney, while the sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron of Orlando, Florida.
