Robredo denies giving ‘chicharon’ to typhoon victims

On Sunday, vice president Leni Robredo refuted claims of a “fake news bearer” who said she and her team gave “chicharon” to typhoon victims.

On her Facebook page, Robredo shared a screenshot of a comment Rossica Louie Hendeve’s who said, “Yung nanay nila pumunta dito sa san mateo rizal. Namigay ng chicharon parang tangerds. Pulutan? ano yon magiinuman kame? Papansin nanay niyo oy! May hakot pang media kaloka!”

(Their mother went here in San Mateo, Rizal. She gave fried pork rinds like a dumb person. Finger foods? Were we drinking? Your mother was attention-seeker! She even brought a lot of media.)

Robredo denied the netizen’s claims and posted the “truth”:

“1. We have not gone to San Mateo yet. We are planning to serve hot meals palang either tonight or tomorrow;

2. We never gave away chicharon. These are the things we give: hot meals, food packs, mattresses, blankets, slippers, hygiene kits, water;

3. The big bag of fish crackers, not chicharon, which I posted about yesterday, was given to us. We did not give it away. Instead, we shared it with our volunteer repackers;

4. We don’t go around with media, unlike a few government officials. Our visits are always low key.”

“It is okay to criticize. But if you use false information, we will report you,” Robredo answered.

Vice President has been busy visiting areas severely damaged by typhoon rolly and Ulysses.

Robredo gave ‘lugaw’ and not chicharon

Last week, VP Leni teased her detractors by tweeting she would be bringing “lugaw” or hot porridge to typhoon Ulysses victims.

“May dala kaming lugaw (We’re bringing porridge),” she said.

Robredo’s detractors use “Leni Lugaw” or “Lugaw Leni” to mock the Vice President after she was seen selling hot porridge to raise funds when she ran in the 2016 elections.

Donors and other partners of the Office of the Vice President provided blankets, diapers, and face masks to the evacuees.

Leni Robredo urged the public to help those still recovering from the typhoons’ effects by donating necessities such as clothes, slippers, food items, and blankets.

Meanwhile, Robredo denied claims that she brought media members whenever she visits evacuations centers for relief operation.
