Rider drowns trying to cross overflowing river during ‘Tisoy’

A male rider is presumed dead after he drowned while trying to cross an overflowing river connecting Poblacion Ilaya and Sitio Siding, Barangay Quinat-Uyan, the town of Maayon, Capiz.

Rescuers are still looking for the body of the rider victim near the river, identified as Dioluo Agam, 27, a resident of Sitio Siding.

Police reports said at 5:52 pm on Monday. The victim was forced to cross the river with his motorcycle to make it back home.

However, the river’s strong current swept the victim and his motorcycle to the deep end of the river and eventually sank.

Members of the Maayon Municipal Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Emergency Response Team immediately conducted a joint rescue operation. Still, they only recovered the motorcycle on the river as they failed to find the victim’s body due to the river’s strong current.

Severe Tropical Storm”Tisoy” Update

At 10:00 AM today, the center of Severe Tropical Storm “TISOY” was estimated based on all available data at 290 km West Southwest of Subic, Zambales (14.1 °N, 117.7 °E ).

It is moving West Northwest at 15 kph with maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

All Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals are now lifted. However, moderate to rough seas may still prevail over the western seaboard of Central Luzon and the southern seaboard of Southern Luzon.
