Over 100 residents evacuated in Cavite due to big waves

More than 100 residents in Tanza, Cavite, were evacuated this Thursday after big waves destroyed several houses in the town.

With the force of the waves brought by the southwest monsoon, the houses standing a few meters away from the sea in Sitio Bijia in Barangay Calibuyo, Tanza were shattered. The breakwater was also damaged.

On the other hand, residents helped each other by bagging the sand that they blocked to protect other houses.

“Nakikipag-ugnayan na ang local government sa provincial government na mabigyan kami ng allocation sa relocation. Naglaan sila ng mga pondo para sa breakwater,” said Tanza municipal administrator John Rodgie Sanariz.

In Barangay Cabalan, Olongapo City, the side of the road collapsed due to the incessant rain since the weekend.

Some residents of Barangay Kalaklan were evacuated due to the landslide.

The temporary bypass bridge at Sitio Canaynayan in Barangay San Pablo, Castillejos, Zambales was damaged during heavy rains.

Rescue teams still had to board a fiberglass boat to cross the raging river.

About 30 families were evacuated from Barangay Palanas in Lemery, Batangas, due to the floods.

A large tree blocked the road opposite a university in Batangas City after it fell.

Authorities worked together to remove the tree and re-cross the road.

A total of 86 families were affected by the floods in 6 barangays in Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro.

2 barangays were also isolated due to the flood.

“May mga nagpunta na at tumitingin na, inaasikaso na ng [Department of Public Works and Highways],” said Mario Mulingbayan, head of Occidental Mindoro disaster office.

Authorities in Occidental Mindoro are said to be on alert due to the continuous rain.

Under the influence of the Southwest Monsoon being enhanced by Typhoon Fabian, scattered to widespread monsoon rains will be experienced in the next 24  over , Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila of CALABARZON and Central Luzon, and portions of MIMAROPA.

Strong winds (strong breeze to near gale conditions) will be experienced over Batanes and Babuyan Islands throughout the passage of the typhoon.
