A man has admitted the rape and murder of a one-year-old boy in Makati City, blaming alcohol for the appalling crime.

The baby’s body was found inside an abandoned building yesterday (Tuesday, July 16) with the suspect arrested soon afterwards.

Speaking in front of the boy’s distraught relatives, 28-year-old Gerald Reparip, described how he choked the victim after carrying out the rape yesterday evening.

In response to questions from Makati City Police Chief Colonel Rogelio Simon, he said: “Kung nagawa ko po ‘yun pasensya na po. Nadala lang po ng alak (If I was able to do that, I am sorry. I was just drunk).”

Asked to confirm what he did to the infant, Reparip replied: “Pinagsamantalahan ko po (I raped him).”

The victim was found by his grandmother lying on the 7th floor of the abandoned building on Yakal Street, Barangay San Antonio, at about 12.30am. The family were the caretakers of the property.

The family told police that the victim’s grandfather had been celebrating his birthday and was drinking with friends on the second storey of the building.

At some point, the grandfather’s brother-in-law invited the suspect, a construction worker from Muntinlupa, to join the drinking session.

Reparip, who has a seven-year-old child of his own, said intoxication drove him to commit the crime. However, he denied being a user of illegal drugs.

While being questioned at Makati City Police Station, the victim’s 19-year-old father swung a punch at Reparip, leaving a cut on his forehead.

Col. Simon said the suspect will be facing a complaint of rape with homicide. He will also be tested for illegal drug use, despite his denial.
