President Rodrigo Duterte joins Marcos-Duterte senatorial slate

Vice presidential aspirant Sara Duterte-Carpio announced that her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, would be joining her senatorial slate, December 14.

Joining President Duterte are Gibo Teodoro, former Palace spokesperson Harry Roque, Herbert Bautista, Jinggoy Estrada, Loren Legarda, and Mark Villar.

Gibo Teodoro is the former secretary of the Department of National Defense of the Philippines from August 2007 to November 2009. He also ran for president in 2010 but lost.

Meanwhile, Herbert Bautista was a former celebrity and mayor of Quezon City.

Jinggoy Estrada is a former actor and a senator. He is the son of former President Joseph Estrada and former senator Luisa Estrada .

Loren Legarda is a Filipino television journalist and a former senator. She is of Visayan descent and is known as the outstanding woman who led two elections for the senate (1998 and 2007).

Mark Villar is the former chief of DPWH. He is the son of the richest man in the Philippines, former senator Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar.

President Rodrigo Duterte announced he was running for senator just days after saying he would no longer run for vice-president. This was the same day that his daughter Inday Sara announced her vice-presidential bid.

Duterte then endorsed his long-term aid and Senator Bong Go as their party’s presidential candidate. However, Go withdrew his candidacy, saying he was unprepared and his family did not support his decision.

“In span of  or days, lilipat ka sa isang posisyon. Yung ibang kandidato pinaghandaan all throughout the years. Ako po hindi ko po napaghandaan,” he said.

Early this month, Davao City Mayor  thanked Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go for responding to the call for President Rodrigo Duterte’s supporters to unite.

Although and did not explicitly mention Go’s name, Sara said she was grateful, and it listened to her request.

“I am thankful for your heeding my request,” said Sara Duterte.

After she launched her candidacy for vice president of the country, Sara said that she called on all those who support the Duterte administration to unite in a mission to continue the good started by her father.
