Over 60 trainees, staff of police training center in CamSur tested positive for COVID

The graduation of more than 100 police trainees who have been training for 3 weeks at the Regional Training Center 5 Annex of the Philippine Public Safety College and National Police Training Institute located in Sitio Nierva, Barangay Duran in this town will be delayed for several weeks.

Of the 133 police and training center staff who underwent antigen tests by the municipal inter-agency task force on Saturday, 65 of them tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Leonil Quiñones, head of the Nabua Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, this is the result of contact tracing done when a male police trainee tested positive in the RT-PCR test conducted at the Bicol Medical Center last week.

“Bini-verify pa natin kung saan nakuha iyong virus kasi mga trainees is around 130 po sila, before po sila ipasok sa training center, nag-undergo po sila ng RT-PCR sa Sorsogon, so lahat naman po iyong negative na pumasok sa training camp,” said Quiñones.

The policemen who tested positive were experiencing mild symptoms of COVID-19, so they were taken to the isolation facility of the Camarines Sur provincial government in the towns of Bula and Calabanga.

Some “direct contacts” were allowed to undergo 14-day quarantine at the training center which has also undergone disinfection and decontamination.

“Lahat po ng trainee noong Saturday po nag-undergo po ng RT-PCR, na-identify po natin yung 65 na positive, iyong mga negative RT-PCR result, even though negative na po sila still po nagseself-monitoring and nag-a-isolate po sa kanya-kanyang munisipyo,” said Quiñones.

He said the public should not worry about the incident, because apart from controlling the COVID case at the training center.
