A Korean American has been arrested after being caught in possession 140 ecstasy tablets.
Jun No, also known as Justine, was taken into custody on Wednesday evening after officers from various anti-drug agencies swooped on the suspect.
Senior Superintendant Graciano Mijares, National Police Drug Enforcement Group acting commander, said the operation was launched at 9.20pm in coordination with the Special Enforcement Service of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Pasay City police.
Mijares said the American citizen of Korean descent, was arrested at the parking lot in front of the Royal Indian Curry House on Seaside Boulevard in Pasay City.
The suspect has been charged with violation of Section 5 of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“He will be charged today for violation of section-5 which is trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution and transportation of dangerous drugs,” Mijares.
It is believed the tablets, which have a street value of 3,000 pesos each, were locally made.
Mijares believes, the suspect could have established a network of customers since he had been travelling regularly between Cebu and Manila over the past three years.
“He could be a part of a group. We are still in a process of conducting follow up operations against the other members of the syndicate,” Mijares said.
According to the PNP, demand for party drugs is usually high during summer season when occasions are very common.
Investigators are now looking into the possible connection of Jun No with the alleged “Korean mafia” in Cebu City.
