Police are on heightened alert after a recent spate of attacks involving foreign students in Baguio.
The recent attacks includes an incident involving a student from Yemen, along with his 17-year-old friend who is also from the same country.
20-year-old Omar Ali Algathmi told police that he and his friend were attacked by three unidentified Filipinos at around dawn on Thursday at the parking lot of Spade Bar along Kisad Road.
The two Yemen friends said they were chatting with three Filipina friends when the suspects appeared out of nowhere and beat them up for no apparent reason.
An earlier incident involving a Korean, also involved several Filipino men inside another bar in Baguio City.
The incident scared many Japanese visitors who were temporarily living in the city.
Authorities say that most of the incidents are happening in the city’s entertainment district, with many of the victims being Korean nationals who are enrolled in various universities throughout Baguio City.
Many of the foreign students only blottered the incidents and have refused to pursue the case for fear of retribution.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan has asked the city police to conduct foot patrols around the areas where bars and nightclubs are located.
