Several PNP officers visit wake of murdered grandmother

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar visited with other senior officials on the first night of mourning for Lilibeth Valdez, who was killed by a drunk policeman in Fairview in Quezon City.

The PNP chief also spent a few minutes on the wake and talked to Valdez’s family.

According to the victim’s relatives, Eleazar ensured that the police officer who shot their relative would be removed from service, charged, and imprisoned.

Aside from the PNP chief, Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra, district director of the Quezon City Police, also visited.

The relatives are said to be satisfied with how the police are handling the case, especially now that the police are just waiting for a commitment order to shoot to be transferred to the jail.

The family continued to call for financial help because they lost their source of income. After all, the victim was still working to support his children and grandchildren.

The wake was moved to the Ascension Chapel in the Good Shepherd Cathedral to follow minimum health protocols to avoid congestion.

They were given only two days to mourn their mother. She was scheduled to be buried on Friday at Bagbag Cemetery in Novaliches.

Meanwhile, in an interview with ABS-CBN News with Master Sgt. Hensie Zinampan, the  apologized to the family of the person he shot Lilibeth Valdez, 52.

Valdez was killed in the shooting, which was captured on a cellphone video.

Zinampan is said to have accumulated anger towards the victim’s children.

“Patawarin nila ako… Hindi nila ako nirerespeto (Forgive me. They did not respect me),” said Zinampan, who was charged with murder by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

According to Zinampan, he was recently beaten by the victim’s 2 children even though he just stopped them from fighting.

“Binugbog ako. Na-black eye ako. Hindi nila nirerespeto ang pulis,” he said,

(They have beaten. I had a black eye. They did not respect me as a cop.)

Zinampan, a member of the Police Security and Protection Group, told Fairview police what happened.

Zinampan also admitted that he had been drinking before the incident.
