A PMA cadet died cardiac arrest secondary to hemorrhage in Philippine Military Academy, Baguio City, Wednesday.
According to initial investigations, the victim was identified as Cadet 4th Class Cadet Darwin Dormitorio, 20 from Cagayan de Oro City.
PMA spokesperson Major Reynan Afan said Dormitorio died possibly because of hazing.
“Looks like hazing may be the cause of death,” Afan said.
Reports said the PMA cadet was found unconscious inside his room, Wednesday morning. He was reportedly suffering from stomach ache and was vomiting profusely while at his barracks in Fort del Pilar.
Dormitorio was rushed to the PMA Station Hospital at around 4 am that day and was declared dead after an hour.
The PMA is still investigating the incident and assured the public that they take good care of the cadets’ overall health.
“PMA assures the public that every cadet’s overall well-being is constantly and systematically being considered in every aspect of education and training,” said Maj. Reynan Afan, PMA public information office chief.
He also said that Dormitorio was a “treasured cadet.”
The cadet was a member of the Echo Company and PMA Class of 2023, which was incorporated only last July 27.
Meanwhile, an insider told the Inquirer that Dormitorios had been at the PMA Hospital two weeks ago for stomach pain.
But he was discharged and had rejoined the cadets when he was again rushed back to the hospital on or before Tuesday dinner, which is 5 p.m.
The academy will give the PMA cadet a ceremonial recognition rite.
