PlayStation gives free games for people to ‘play at home’

PlayStation on Tuesday announced they are offering for a limited time to encourage people to stay at during the quarantine.

“Announcing the Play At Home initiative. Stay safe and pick up Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey for free from 16 April through 6 May,” it said in a Facebook post.

“People all over the world are doing the right thing by staying home to help contain the spread of COVID–19. We are deeply grateful to everyone practicing physical distancing and take our responsibility as a home entertainment platform seriously, so we are asking our community to continue supporting the safe choice and the need to Play At Home,” it said on its website.

Aside from the free games, PlayStation is also raising funds to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties due to the crisis.

“Independent developers are vital to the heart and soul of the gaming community, and we understand the hardships and financial struggles that many smaller gaming studios are facing,” it said.

It added that it had earmarked $10 million to support its independent development partners.
