Philippines records 8,900 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 8,900 new infections of coronavirus disease on Monday, bringing the country to 1,667,714 outbreaks.

Based on newly collected data by the Department of Health, here are the new incoming data for today:

  • all COVID-19 cases: 1,667,714
  • still recovering: 78,480, or 4.7% of total infections
  • new recoveries: 7,937, reason to be 1,560,106 all recovering
  • new deaths: 6, which raises the total local death toll to 29,128

According to a new DOH record, the more infectious Delta variant of COVID-19 has reached 13 of the 17 regions in the Philippines. Of the 450 cases in the Philippines, 426 are recovering, but 10 are dying.

Due to the growing threat of the Delta variant in the Philippines and the number of new cases recorded recently, the country’s classification as “high-risk” for COVID-19 infections has also been restored.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire clarified that the number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is not only increasing among children. He said the infection was raised by 59% in “all age groups” from July 13 to August 8.

Philippines records 8,900 new COVID-19 cases

Metro Manila mayors have agreed to start distributing P1,000 in aid to those affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting Wednesday. However, there is nothing wrong with giving it earlier, said presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

“Nag-meeting po kami ng mga mayors the other night para nga paplantsahin ‘yung ating proseso ng pamimigay ng ayuda at nagkasundo po sila na sabay-sabay silang magsisimula sa Miyerkules,” said DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya.

As many as 11.39 million people are receiving complete doses of COVID-19 vaccines so far in the Philippines, the National Task Force against COVID-19 reported today.

Due to the rapid increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases so far, St. Luke’s Medical Center, whose Global City (Taguig) and Quezon City branches have reached their full capacity for COVID-19 wards and critical care. Because of this, they advise those who experience COVID symptoms to go to another hospital first.

COVID-19 has already affected 200.84 million people worldwide, according to the latest data from the World Health Organization. Of that number, 4.26 million people are dead.
