A week after the Philippines landed at the bottom of Bloomberg’s COVID-19 resilience ranking, the is again at the lowest position in the COVID-19 recovery index by Nikkei Asia.

The Philippines ranks 121st among 121 countries in the world when it comes to recovery, according to Nikkei Asia.

The Nikkei based their on the infection rate, the rollout of vaccines, and the mobility of people.

“Dito po ‘yong panahon na mataas ang kaso sa ating bansa kompara sa ibang bansa kung saan nakalampas na po ‘yung peak ng cases nila… ang bakunahan din po was affected by this increasing number of cases in the country,” said Vergeire.

(This is the time when the number of cases is high in our compared to other countries where the peak of their cases has already passed… the vaccination was also affected by this increasing number of cases in the country.)

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez also joined the study, especially since compared to other countries in ASEAN, the case fatality rate or percentage of deaths from the disease is low.

“Kulang ang data nila… skewed ang kanilang analysis,” said Galvez.

(The data is insufficient. The analysis is skewed.)

Philippines lowest of 121 countries in COVID-19 recovery index

According to the Department of Health (DOH), it is not a bad thing that almost 30 percent of Filipinos are vaccinated, especially since the world continues to experience a low supply of vaccines.

DOH intends to write Nikkei Asia.

“We will validate the findings and we will write them a letter if we see that there is something wrong with the methodology. Kasi baka may problema sa methodology (there could be a problem in the methodology),” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque.

DOH also confirmed that the number of COVID-19 cases decreased.

Also among the visible decline is in hospital admissions. The intensive care unit utilization rate is also said to have slightly dropped to 68 percent.

According to Vergeire, the data released by the DOH every day undergoes intense validation.
