A hoard of more than one million pesos worth of cigarettes were seized at the port of Cebu on January 31 by the Philippine coastguard.
The stash was part of an inspection at the Coast Guard substation in Tinago, Cebu. The coastguard has posted on its website that the shipment was discovered in some 35 container boxes.
Joining the inspection were representatives from the Naval Intelligence Security Group Central and Law Enforcement Team Cebu.
The operation was due to a tip-off from an informant who said that more than 50 boxes of undocumented products were unloaded from MV Span Asia at Pier Five, Berth 10 in Cebu Port.
The team went to the port and learned that no declaration of cargo was submitted and promptly seized the content.
