PhilHealth offers COVID-19 package for those in home quarantine

PhilHealth will shoulder the check-up and COVID-19 home kit of members who are asymptomatic and at home quarantine starting September 2.

The package costs P5,900 for members with COVID-19 who have asymptomatic or mild symptoms and are quarantined at home after going through the Barangay Health and Emergency Team.

“Kung meron na, yun tatanggapin na sya ng provider, first consultation kailangan face to face tapos yung susunod virtual na… Inilagay na namin sa package ang home kits na may alcohol, pulse oximeter, thermometer, vitamins, oral rehydration,” said PhilHealth spokesperson Dr. Shirley Domingo.

It is only open in areas that will have a declared COVID-19 surge by the IATF.

The other COVID-19 insurance package of PhilHealth will remain for those who experience mild, moderate, severe, and critical cases of COVID-19.

But the patient will have to pay for over-the-counter drugs such as remdesivir or tocilizumab.

Meanwhile, the Social Security System has extended the deadline for filing and claiming sickness benefits, including members who have COVID-19 until they have quarantine status nationwide.

Those who are hospitalized or at home are also qualified.

The SSS explained that the Employees Compensation Commission’s sickness benefit is separate and can also be applied for by sick members, including those affected by COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Philippines recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases in just one day at 17,231. It already surpassed the record on April 2, 2021.

The country also recorded the highest number of COVID-19 deaths (317) in a single day in the past 314 days.

Although COVID-19 cases are on the rise and hospitals are filling up, it appears that another P2 billion for COVID-19 supplies in 2020 was not spent by the Department of Budget and Management. Hence, according to Paul Guinbarda, director of the procurement service, it needs to be returned to the national treasury.

Meanwhile, about 582,500 AstraZeneca  doses purchased by the private sector and local government arrived in the Philippines earlier today.
