PH vaccinates average of 162,513 people daily – NTF

The National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 said the government vaccinates an average of 162,513 COVID-19 people daily.

NTF added that as of May 22, the Philippines had given a total of 4,097,425 COVID-19 vaccine doses nationwide.

Of the total number, 3,147,486 received first doses while 969,939 were second doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

“Based on the Bloomberg report, in terms of total number of anti-COVID vaccines administered, the Philippines ranks second out of 10 ASEAN Member States; 13th out 47 countries in Asia; and 37th out of 196 countries worldwide,” NTF also said in its statement.

On Saturday, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said the country recorded its highest daily vaccination rate on May 20, with 229,769 administered doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I am confident that as we start inoculating our economic frontliners and indigenous population by June, we will be able to double this figure and vaccinate more than four million people as long there is a steady supply of vaccines,” he said.

Last week, NTF reported that the Philippines is currently ranked third in Southeast Asia (SEA) in the vaccination rollout.

leads the SEA, which started vaccination on January 13 and has 22.6 million doses injected, while Singapore is second with 3.13 million doses already given since their vaccination began on December 30, 2020.

Worldwide, the Philippines ranks 41st out of 195 countries, while it is also 15th out of 47 countries in Asia.

The NTF’s current focus area on vaccination is the National Capital Region and the neighboring provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, , Laguna, , and Rizal, with an allocation of 3.3 million doses per month.

The focus area also includes Metro Cebu and Metro Davao, with an allocation of 400,000 doses of vaccine per month.

According to OCTA Research fellow Fr. Nicanor Austriaco O.P., 70 percent of the estimated 13.8 million Filipinos in Metro Manila or 9.66 million adults should be inoculated to achieve herd immunity in Metro Manila.

According to  Harry , the national government targets to inoculate 58 million or 70% of 83 million people in COVID-19 hotspots to achieve herd immunity.
