PDEA gives 16 informants over P3.5 million cash rewards

A total of 16 civilian informants received 3,594,314.94 cash rewards from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for providing vital information to the authorities that resulted in successful anti-illegal drug operations in various parts of the country.

PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva himself led the awarding ceremony held yesterday morning at the PDEA National Headquarters in Quezon City. At the same time, Surigao del Norte Second District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers was the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

The informants who received the reward were identified by their codenames, including George, Quarang, Dambo, Hagibis, Japanese, Johnny, Panda, Port, Alvin, Kobid-19, Pogi, Chuckie, Summer, Tukil, Mambo, and Je.

According to Villanueva, the information provided by them has been of great help to their successful conduct of anti-drug operations, confiscation of millions worth of illegal drugs, and arrest of high-value targeted drug personalities under PDEA Operation: Private Eye.

The informant with the largest reward received was “Port,” who took home 722,076.24 after providing information to the PDEA Regional Office VII Seaport Interdiction Unit, resulting in the confiscation of 12,003.7186 grams of shabu in a buy-bust operation in a warehouse in the AS Fortuna St., Brgy. PDEA “Operation Private Eye” is a citizen-based information collection program designed to encourage the active participation of private citizens in reporting illegal drug activities in their community.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police wants to use body-worn cameras and the CCTV Rapid Deployment System in anti-terrorist operations.

According to PNP Chief PGen. Guillermo Eleazar, the CCTV rapid deployment system consists of 10 deployable CCTVs with Artificial Intelligence, video management system, 10 CCTV mobile trailers, and 10 generators, which add to the capability of the PNP Command Center.

Each CCTV camera can load 200 photos of wanted criminals, and it will use facial recognition to identify targets from the group of people.

It was learned that the CCTV Rapid Deployment system costs P60 million to be taken from the P45 million saved on the purchase of the body camera and P19 million left over from the improvement of the PNP Command Center.
