PAL flight emits fire, made emergency landing at LAX

A Philippines Airlines (PAL) flight made a successful emergency landing at LAX after it emitted fire mid-air due to engine failure, Thursday, November 21 (Eastern Time in the USA).

The Boeing 777 twin-engine aircraft took off from Los Angeles International Airport at about 11:15 p.m. going to Manila, Philippines, airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said.

Montgomery also said that shortly after taking off, the pilot announced an emergency landing, and the PAL Flight 113 returned to LAX and landed safely at noon.

Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the emergency was due to an engine failure that caused the plane to emit fire.

Passengers aboard the Philippine Airlines Flight 113 shared the actual footage of the fire coming out of the plane’s engine.

“I could see flashes of light. I though it was some kind of… just from the sunlight, and then I just start hearing ‘boom , boom, boom.’ and I look out of the window and there’s balls of fires just shooting out of the engine,” Walter Baumann, a passenger, said.

The PAL plane was on fire when it returned to the LAX. All passengers and crew landed safely.

Philippine Airlines said they would be responsible for rebooking and accommodating passengers on-board PAL Flight 112.
