Some businesses in Cebu still not recovering from pandemic

The sale of the famous danggit at Taboan Market, Cebu City is still low.

It used to be bought by tourists at the end of the Sinulog Festival at the end of January.

Because there are no tourists in Cebu due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sellers only rely on online selling and send it to their customers.

The price of danggit also dropped, which is now P700 per kilo from the previous P850.

According to Marilyn Bayun-an, owner of the danggit store, they have not been able to return to normal income since the pandemic.

There are also a few shops open on the side of the Basilica Menor del Santo Niño.

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) admitted that despite the city’s modified general community quarantine, businesses are still unable to recover.

“I can say 80 percent of the businesses in Cebu are open but the consumer confidence and spending is still not there yet,” said CCCI President Felix Taguiam.

According to CCCI, they do not want to have a lockdown again.

According to the Department of Health, there are 129 new COVID-19 cases in Cebu City this Monday while there are 1,428 active cases.
