Over P18 billion aid already distributed: DILG

Up to 18,822,713 individuals already received assistance, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año.

It is worth P18.8 billion out of the total P22.9 billion funds distributed to local governments.

These include more than 11 million individuals from Metro Manila, 2.9 million in Bulacan, 3.2 million in Cavite, 2.7 million in Laguna, and 2.6 million in Rizal.

Año, on the other hand, assured that there is still enough time to give to those who have not yet received aid.

Meanwhile, as many as 18,862 violations of the health and safety protocols implemented from May 6 to May 10 have been recorded.

Of these, 904 were arrested while 9,379 were given warnings, 8,027 were fined, 491 were given community service, while 61 were already under inquest.

This follows the president’s order on May 5 to arrest those who do not wear face masks.

“Patuloy po nating ipatutupad ang inyong utos na pag-aresto po sa mga hindi nagsusuot ng face mask,” said Año.

Año also reported to the president the 280 recorded violations of the ban on mass gatherings, the latest being the incident of mass gathering in Gubat at the Ciudad resort in Caloocan City.

According to the DILG secretary, the police and local government are already filing a case against the violators, including the owner of the resort, and have also summoned the chairman of Barangay 171 which covers it.

As many as 5,473 were recorded not following physical distancing.

Duterte stressed that the person with the authority to arrest those who do not follow the health and safety protocol is the president, barangay officials, and mayors.

Therefore, barangay chairmen who fail to implement the order in their constituencies will be held accountable by law.

In the campaign against illegal drugs, DILG chief Año reported to the president that from May 1 to May 9, you conducted 1,121 operations in which 1,543 drug personalities were arrested.

Nineteen people were killed in the operations while 38 surrendered.

More than P265 million worth of illegal drugs were also seized.
